Students
work together to earn compliments for the class. These are shown as stars above our classroom
door. When we start working for each new
set of 5 stars, we vote as a class what our reward will be. So far, the “Bowers’ Bunch” has earned
popcorn and popsicles. The class is now
trying to earn “lunch with the teacher”.
Compliments can be given for things such as good manners, a good report
from a substitute, and a line with a “zip and a grip”. (Really any time a grown-up has something nice
to say about our bunch.) I can give compliments too! However, stars can come down if behavior and
actions are in need of improvement.
We also use a scoreboard system throughout
the day to monitor our behavior. There is an example shown below. (Click scoreboard to see Senora Speedy's bog!)
Reminders and praises for
behavior are shown with tally marks by the teacher. Students respond with an, “OH YEAH!” for a
smiley and “OH, NOs!” for frownies. Students
see real quick when they need to change their behavior and we are doing math at
the same time! Talk about a win, win situation!
Everybody say, “Oh Yeah!”
